African Rating Agency: What challenges the AU now faces

The African Union's planned rating agency faces the same problem as its competitors: the data situation on the continent is poor.
The African Union's (AU) announcement to establish an African rating agency in June 2025 has been met with mixed reactions among experts. In a recent interview with Table.Briefings, former World Bank Vice President Samuel Maimbo emphasized the importance of ensuring a solid data basis for the planned rating agency. Otherwise, he said, it would be virtually impossible to compete. However, there is no doubt that an African counterweight to the major players in the industry is needed.
